The Debates

August 28, 2020

Now that the conventions are mercifully over, we have the debates to look forward to or dread. I am not going to predict how they will go, but I do have some advice for Joe Biden. Joe Biden has already said that he wouldn’t debate Trump unless he released his tax returns, and was fact-checked in real time. Trump is still being “audited” so it will be up to the southern district of New York to get the returns. IBM’s Watson would be needed to fact-check Trump in real time. Here is what I would say in my opening remarks if I were Joe Biden.

My fellow Americans. This is what you are going to here from Donald Trump this evening. He lies. He will cite facts and figures that are not true. To use his favorite word, they are fake. He cannot tell you where they come from because they are made up. When you ask him a direct question, he will say he doesn’t know anything about that, but everyone says it’s true. Who is everyone? He will tell you that the media is fake news, enemies of the people, and biased unless it is Fox News or a conspiracy theory website. If he says that there will be a major announcement in the near future, ask what and when because there won’t be. When he says that he will see how it goes, that means he has no idea where it is going. He will accuse me of the things he is guilty of. He will say I am a puppet of China. This from a man who has an unexplained affinity for Vladimir Putin, which started the Mueller investigation. He will say I am mentally impaired. This from a self-proclaimed stable genius, who can’t read from a teleprompter, pays people to take his SAT’s, and is proud of passing a test designed for Alzheimer’s patients. He will continue to claim nonsense about the Ukraine for which he got impeached. He will say that I am corrupt. How many of his people have been convicted and gone to jail? When he says you should be afraid of losing the suburbs, remember that he has been the President for the past four years, not me. The only thing that Donald Trump and I have in common is that we are both running against his record.
